PETALING JAYA:
TV personality Wardina Safiyyah and activist Syed Azmi Alhabshi have insisted that they had never named Maahad Tahfiz Darul Bakarah school as the subject of their Facebook comments in relation to allegations of sexual abuse.

A police report against the two was lodged yesterday by independent preacher Kazim Elias who said they made slanderous comments that could affect his reputation as a religious speaker.

Kazim, who is the founder and principal of Pusat Pendidikan Al Barakah, said he and the school administration would not compromise in the case and would hand over the culprit to police if the allegations were proven true.

Astro Awani quoted him as saying that action needed to be taken to clear his name and the name of his school.

However, Wardina was quoted as saying that it was the Astro Awani television station and the police themselves who had named the school. “The police should spend more time investigating the allegations made to the school. We did nothing wrong,” she remarked on her official Facebook account, according to Malay Mail Online.

Syed Azmi also said on his Facebook account that he had “never mentioned (Kazim’s) name and his school in any of my postings” and said he had been trying to raise awareness about child safety, among other issues.

“So please, pray for me. And in case I need a lawyer, please be there for me,” he said.

Allegations that some new students at the tahfiz school had been molested and sodomised have been spread on text messages.
