He said they should refrain from showing off that they were heroes and scale walls or fences during demonstrations as this was not Malaysian culture.
They must remember that they had to abide by the provisions of the Universities and University Colleges Act 2012, he said when asked to comment on the proposed gatherings for Saturday in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, organised by the Gerakan Anak Muda activist group.
He had earlier launched the Pusat Minda Emas (PuMAS) of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia at Tanjung Laboh here.
Idris said students must have a sense of responsibility and focus on their studies as their parents and the nation were dependent on their doing well as citizens.
“Annually, the government allocates RM18,000 for an undergraduate to pursue his or her studies at a tertiary institution.
“The undergraduate only pays about RM1,000, meaning the government provides a subsidy of 90 per cent.”
Idris said PuMAS was set up by UTHM to produce human capital with a mind for success.
“The centre is surrounded by a village atmosphere and it is also close to Batu Pahat town.”
He said PuMAS’ proximity to the Tanjung Laboh airport would facilitate the progress of the vicinity as a venue for aeronautical training and education in time to come.
“I understand that the university is to forge collaboration with an investor to develop the aeronautical discipline here.”
PuMAS, established on 6ha at a cost of RM11 million, will serve as the training and field activity centre for the university students.
