Higher education minister Zambry Abdul Kadir said a new UiTM board chairman has been appointed because the time has come.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The recent appointment of a new chairman for Universiti Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) board of directors is part of the process of replacing someone who has left, says higher education minister Zambry Abdul Kadir.

“When it is time for someone to go, they will go. The ministry will find a replacement and that’s a normal process,” he told reporters after giving his keynote address at the US-Malaysia Vice Chancellor Round Table 2024 here today.

On Tuesday, it was announced that former Proton Holdings Bhd’s boss Khamil Jamil had been appointed as the new UiTM board chairman. He replaces Raduan Che Rose.

Zambry was asked whether Khamil’s appointment was related to Raduan claiming trial to seven charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT).

In August, Raduan, who is also the National Professors Council (MPN) president, claimed trial to seven counts of CBT involving RM271,000 of the council’s money, while the CEO of an MPN-linked firm claimed trial to colluding with him.

It was previously reported that Raduan did not respond when asked whether he planned to step down as the chairman of UiTM’s board of directors, a position he had held since February last year.
