PETALING JAYA:
The Taiwanese hip-hop group that performed with Namewee in the music video that got him into trouble with the police has expressed shock over his arrest.

Malaysiakini reported that the manager of the group told Taiwanese newspaper Apple Daily that they did not expect the video to become a serious issue.

“We went to various places for the shooting under the director’s instruction,” he said.

Namewee was picked up by police when he arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Sunday and remanded for four days.

His controversial music video is alleged to have insulted religious sensitivities of some Malaysians.

Namewee had claimed that a version of the music video “Oh My God” was leaked on the Internet and this showed the group dancing and singing at places of worship in Malaysia, including a mosque.

The group’s manager, in the report, also contended that the leaked version was not the finished version which had deleted “inappropriate scenes”.

“We respect the local culture,” said the group’s manager in the article.

“It may involve us, it may not. But we are very worried about Namewee. All of us are good friends.”

He did not know who leaked the earlier version on the Internet.

Malaysiakini said it was reported that police were seeking Interpol’s help to track down the group.
