KUALA LUMPUR:
PAS needs to convince the public that they are sincere, Umno Vice-President Hishammuddin Hussein said today.

Hishammuddin said this in relation to the newly-formed alliance between PAS and Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia, which will be named Gagasan Sejahtera.

“PAS has to be consistent. If you’re not consistent, people will point a finger at you and question how you’re going to justify what you did in the past.

“When you look at the new scenario, it is not viable for parties like PAS or DAP to survive on its own. They have to convince us and more importantly the public that their new approach is sincere.

“Surely what they have shown us before this has not been very convincing,” Hishammuddin said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Yesterday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang announced the official name of the coalition.

He stressed that Gagasan would not subscribe to hate politics but offer solutions to the problems facing the people, adding that the new pact will offer an “alternative choice” to the people.

“We practise mature politics that is based on facts and not based only on perception,” Hadi said.
