Dr Ting Teck Chin faces a charge of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder, under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code for allegedly causing the death of the 44-year-old Syed Alman.
He was said to have committed the offence on June 1, between 6pm and 9.05pm, at the Imperial Dental Specialist Centre in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
If convicted, he can be jailed for up to 10 years or fined or both.
Sessions Court Judge Zainal L Saleh granted bail for Dr Ting at RM20,000 in one surety.
He fixed Oct 17 as the next mention date.
The accused was represented by K Kumaraendran and Dev Kumaraendran.
Abazafree Abbas appeared for the prosecution.
Syed Alman died on June 1 in the course of receiving dental treatment at the private clinic.
He was married to Nurulhidayah Zahid, the home minister’s eldest daughter.
