PETALING JAYA:
The Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) football team is set to become the first football team in Malaysia to own a private jet.

This is after the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar presented the club with a Gulfstream 550 jet, it was announced today on JDT’s official Facebook page.

The Southern Tigers FB page posting said the jet will be used to fly club officials and players and will be ready for delivery in mid-2017.

“With this presentation, JDT creates history yet again being the first club in the country to own its own aircraft. Allah bless the Sultan,” the Southern Tigers posting reported.

JDT is owned by Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who is the Tunku Mahkota Johor and better known as TMJ. Last week, the club also announced the appointment of TMJ’s sister, Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah as the new club president.

According to aviation website Aviationweek, a Gulfstream 550 jet costs some US$61 million.

In January this year, TMJ announced that Sultan Ibrahim had contributed RM50 million to JDT.

“This comes from the realisation that the Johor football project is one for the long haul, and serves as a unifying factor that brings together all of Bangsa Johor,” TMJ said.
