His eldest son, Mohamad Adhwa Mohamad Sahar, 32, said he was informed by his mother that Sahar would be discharged on Aug 8 or earlier, if his condition improved.
“My mother contacted me yesterday afternoon and told me that father would be discharged on Aug 8 if his condition was good, and at the earliest by Aug 6 if there are no other complications.
“Although he is allowed to return to Malaysia, the doctors there (London) have set several conditions which must be met to ensure that father remains in stable condition,” he told the media when met at his home in Taman Desa Malang, yesterday.
Adhwa said his father’s condition was more stable but he was still weak and undergoing therapy at the hospital.
He said his father was healthy before he left for London and had no other issues besides gout.
“My father unexpectedly fainted and had a stroke as soon as he arrived at the Heathrow Airport in London.
Adhwa added that his father was then taken to the hospital and underwent surgery.
“We did not have enough money to pay the medical bills and I am grateful to all the caring Malaysians, Mara and the state government for helping our family,” he said.
It was previously reported that Sahar had served Mara for 30 years and the agency would be responsible for his welfare as well as bringing him home to Malaysia.
Mara had reportedly paid more than RM150,000 towards Sahar’s medical expenses so far and would get the detailed bill from the hospital before Sahar is allowed to return to Malaysia.
After almost a month’s treatment and three weeks in the Intensive Care Unit, Sahar’s bill now stood at almost RM250,000 and is increasing at a cost of £2,000 (RM10,700) per day.
