Alexander Nanta Linggi, the deputy rural and regional development minister, said that Mara had directed all its state directors to have discussions with local councils to determine a policy for mobile businesses.
“We are worried that local councils will take action (against food truck operators), that’s why Mara has directed all its state branch directors to discuss with PBTs to determine a policy for mobile business,” he told Bernama after launching the East Coast Fiesta at Plaza Angsana, here today.
In April the ministry had allocated RM5 million through Mara for new food truck operators, especially in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
He said no conditions have been set on their operations except for pre-conditions such as a requirement for the vehicle to be passed by the Puspakom vehicle inspection centre.
He said restrictions were necessary to establish a better image for the food truck business, to introduce appropriate operating hours and turn the business into a public attraction.
