IPOH:
The city council does not propose to raise car parking charges in the city, but is looking into the overall management for more systematic parking, the mayor said today.

Zamri Man said “increasing the rate is not in our study, it is more towards a new system to facilitate the people such as the online payment as Ipoh is still using the coupon system.”

Parking rates at city council car parks are RM0.30 sen for half an hour, RM0.60 for an hour and RM4 for a whole day.

Attending a Car Free Day programme here today, Zamri said there was a growing response from the public to various activities to promote healthier lifestyles.

More than 6,000 took part today, compared with about 2,000 when it was first held nine years ago.

He said the greater acceptance of the programme showed the people supported the state and local government’s effort to reduce carbon emission in the city.

Jalan Raja Dihilir in the city centre is closed to all vehicles from 7am to 10am once a month to conduct various physical activities for the people.
