Judge Ikmal Hisham Mohd Tajuddin fixed the date after the case was mentioned before him yesterday.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab said a psychiatric report from Bahagia Hospital, Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan near here on May 19 stated that Fathi Munzir Nadzri, 29, was fit to stand trial.
Fadhli also said seven prosecution witnesses would be called to testify.
He is alleged to have damaged the statues at the Sree Muneeswaran Amman Kovil Temple in front of Angsana Mall at about 5pm on April 24 and also to have been in possession of a machete at that time.
On the charge of damaging the statues under Section 295 of the Penal Code, Fathi Munzir can be sentenced up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
For possessing the machete, the accused was charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which provides a maximum of 10 years’ jail and whipping, upon conviction.
On April 29, the Court ordered Fathi Munzir to undergo an examination and treatment for a month at Bahagia Hospital for a month.
He was freed on a bail of RM8,000 in one surety, which was paid on May 25, after he was found fit to stand trial.
The accused was represented by counsel Tun Mohamad Ammar Aziz.
