Sessions Court judge Amernudin Ahmad discharged and acquitted policeman Haris Faddila Hashim, two former police officers Mohd Nizam Manshor and Indra Zaidi Zamani, along with businessman Lau Ngik Yin and his bodyguard Zainuddin Rosman. He found the prosecution failed to prove the charges against them.
“There was no evidence to show the five of them planned the conspiracy and no evidence that Nizam and Indra were at the scene,” he said.
On July 13, all five accused faced charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
They were said to have committed the offence at Westin Hotel between April and June 15 last year.
On June 15 last year, a Mongolian national, Nomin Erdene, was shot five times at Dataran Bandar Utama. She was in a vehicle with a businessman acquaintance.
The police were reported as saying that the shooting was done by two former police officers.
They were allegedly hired to kill the businessman but they missed the target and shot Nomin instead.
She survived the shooting.
Lawyers Gobind Singh and Haijan Omar represented Haris, Lim Chee Chau appeared for Lau, and T. Shashi Kumar appeared for Nizam, Indra and Zainuddin.
Ezrene Zakariah appeared for the prosecution.
