The post was announced by Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman on Wednesday, reported The Star Online.
Ahmad said he was only informed of the appointment through media reports.
“I decline to accept the appointment. I was neither consulted nor received any appointment letter,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.
He claimed the move was an attempt to shame him.
Ahmad said allocations meant to be channelled to the Kijal constituency were taken away from him.
“I don’t see the MB trying to resolve the matter and this (the appointment) appears to be a further attempt to shame me.”
He was speaking to reporters after being appointed as the Terengganu Perkasa president. Also present was Perkasa President Ibrahim Ali.
During an exco members’ portfolio reshuffle on Wednesday, Ahmad was named as a deputy Exco member.
Ahmad Razif had said Ahmad’s appointment was a normal procedure as any assemblyman who was not an exco member could be made a deputy exco member.
He said Ahmad was already a deputy exco member, but this was not made public until the announcement.
However, Ahmad refuted that he was a deputy exco member and said he had not received any letter to that effect.
