PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian concert by international pop star Selena Gomez will be held next Monday as planned, with police ready to increase security controls to prevent any untoward incidents.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Shafien Mamat today confirmed that the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) had approved the organisers’ application to hold the concert.

According to a report by Oriental Daily, the organisers will station at least 30 security and Rela officers both inside and outside Stadium Malawati Shah Alam.

A Sin Chew Daily report meanwhile said police had yet to release a permit for the concert and was awaiting MBSA’s reply.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali was reported last night as saying the organisers submitted a permit application 10 days ago and that the city council would approve it if they adhered to all the regulations set.

This comes after the initial outcry by PAS Youth urging the authorities to stop the concert for fear it would damage the faith of Muslims and tarnish the month of Syawal.

PAS Youth Dakwah Committee Chairman Hafez Sabri also urged the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) to release an official letter on the matter.

Hafez said the state government should refer to the entertainment guidelines published by the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) before approving any concert application.

In the meantime, PAS Youth scheduled an event on Wednesday to protest against the concert and deliver a memorandum on the matter to the SUK building in Shah Alam.
