GEORGE TOWN:
The Penang Umno Liaison Committee is to hold a special meeting on Friday to discuss the snap election proposed by the DAP-led state government.

Secretary Musa Sheikh Fadzir said today the meeting would be held at 3pm at the Umno building in Jalan Macalister.

“The meeting will be chaired by Committee Chairman Zainal Abidin Osman. The state Barisan Nasional meeting will be held at night at the Penang Gerakan headquarters,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Local media recently reported Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy as saying that DAP had listed two options as the response to the two corruption charges filed against Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is also the DAP secretary-general.

The first option was to hold a snap election to gauge the people’s response to the charges against Lim, and the second was to wait for the next general election due in August 2018.

Lim was charged in the High Court on June 30 on two counts of corruption related to the re-zoning of agricultural land to housing land as well as the purchase of land and a bungalow at below market price.
