In the 11am incident, the Customs officers were trying to stop a van suspected of smuggling alcohol.
Johor Police Chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said due to the impact of the collision, the Nissan Xtrail used by the Customs officers, skidded and hit a wall by the roadside.
Following the incident, the police conducted several raids around Iskandar Puteri and arrested two men, aged 38 and 61, believed to be the prime suspects.
“Police have seized a Ford Ranger, a Honda Accord and a van used by the smugglers. We are hunting their accomplices who have been identified,” he said in a statement, here today.
The police will apply for a remand order for both of them under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to investigate smuggling activities and to track down their accomplices.
Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said the case was being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
Police will cooperate with the Customs Department to eliminate illegal activities using violence against the authorities.
