PETALING JAYA:
The DAP announced today that it will delay its party elections until after the next general election.

In a statement released today, DAP National Organising Secretary Anthony Loke said the party would still hold its national conference as scheduled.

“Although there will be no party election this year, a national conference is scheduled to be held on Dec 4,” Loke said.

He added that the current central executive committee’s term of office runs until Sept 29 this year, but it had the power to postpone the party congress for up to 18 months, under Clause VIII(1) of the Party Constitution, should the meeting fall within two years of the date that Parliament is dissolved.

The next general election needs to be held by mid-2018 but there is speculation that a snap GE14 may be called by Prime Minister Najib Razak next year.
