Noh Omar said Leiking’s remarks in an online posting was an insult to the department and to Islam. By extension, this was also insulting to the Sultan of Selangor, who is head of the Islamic religion in the state.
Leiking, who is a PKR vice-president, was said to have accused Selangor of being led by extremists, following an Aidilfitri sermon which had praised the efforts to bring to Parliament a bill to expand the powers of the shariah courts.
“He questioned a sermon. He does not even listen to a sermon, he does not understand hence he shouldn’t get involved,” said Noh Omar.
“When you question a sermon, you are questioning Islam in Selangor. So if the PKR president and the Selangor menteri besar want to maintain the dignity of the state, they must take action against the PKR vice-president,” Noh Omar told reporters while at a Hari Raya open house gathering.
“The Sultan is the religious leader of Selangor. If you question religion or question a sermon, to me it is the same as questioning the Sultan,” he said.
Noh Omar challenged PKR, the menteri besar and the PKR president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to take action against Leiking in defence of the sanctity of Islam.
The Selangor state government is under a PKR-led administration, with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali as menteri besar.
Jais lodged a police report against Leiking on Friday, saying that he had deliberately insulted the Sultan, their department and religious leaders of the state.
