The one-of-its-kind two-storey mosque on top of a seven level car park podium in one of Klang Valley’s largest integrated mixed commercial and residential developments being developed by SP Setia Bhd can accommodate more than 1,000 worshipers at one time.

The mosque project director, Awang Ahmad Kari, said the mosque, measuring about 1,207.73 sq metre (13,000 square feet), can accommodate about 3,000 people to the fullest.

It also has 700 parking bays and so it would not be a problem for those going for Friday prayer or for special events, like wedding ceremonies, held at the mosque, he told Bernama here recently.

Awang Ahmad said according to the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi), the new mosque would be used to temporarily house the administration office of Bangsar Baru’s Abu Bakar As Siddiq Mosque which would be closed for renovation.

“We are in the process of completing the mosque so that it can be handed over to Jawi on time,” he said.

Awang Ahmad said work on the mosque was now more than 90 per cent completed.

In line with the eco-themed development of KL Eco City, the mosque is designed to provide natural air ventilation as well as surrounded by a lush landscape design.

KL Eco City, developed on a 10-hectare area of the former Kampung Haji Abdullah Hukum, is one of the largest integrated mixed commercial and residential development projects in the country.

Construction of the RM7 billion project, which is a joint development with KL City Hall, started in 2011 and is scheduled to be fully completed by 2023.
