PUTATAN: Police have launched a manhunt for five members of a syndicate who escaped with cash from two automated teller machines (ATM) at a bank in Putatan on June 24.

Penampang police chief DSP Rosley Hobden said the five assailants, who were wearing face masks, had used explosives to blast open two ATM machines at 4.20am.

“Police have identified the suspects and we have launched a manhunt for them,” he told reporters here today after witnessing Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Yahya Hussin hand out Hari Raya Aidilfitri goodies to security personnel here today.

Rosley urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the nearest police station.

Before fleeing the scene in a Perodua Viva car, one of the assailants was said to have pointed a knife at a security guard at the bank.

Police have not ruled out the prospect that the syndicate was also responsible for a similar robbery at an ATM in Membakut in April.
