KUALA LUMPUR:
The ringgit continued its uptrend against the US dollar in opening higher today and in line with other Asian currencies, as the shock over the United Kingdom’s (UK) decision to leave the European Union (EU) last week gradually dimmed.

At 9.02am, the ringgit was higher at 4.0170/0220 against the greenback from Wednesday’s close of 4.0380/0440.

A dealer said traders, however, remained cautious as the UK’s status remains unknown, causing uncertainty in the EU.

The benchmark Brent Crude which settled better at US$50.61 from US$48.79 per barrel previously, also helped propel the local note higher.

Against other major currencies, the ringgit also traded higher.

It rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.9804/9863 from 2.9933/9991 on Wednesday, and appreciated against the yen to 3.9087/9155 from 3.9372/9442 previously.

The local unit was firmer against the British pound at 5.4009/4092 from 5.4073/4169, and rose against the euro to 4.4629/4701 from 4.4660/4743.
