KOTA SAMARAHAN:
The police have yet to make any arrest in connection with the murder of Bekenu PKR Secretary Bill Kayong on June 21.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Mazlan Mansor said a special team had been set up and was still investigating the case.

“We are working round the clock to investigate and solve the case,” he told reporters after launching Op Selamat 9/2016, held in conjunction with the coming Aidilfitri celebrations, at the Summer Shopping Mall here today.

Kayong, 43, who was the PKR candidate for the Bekenu seat in the last state election, was shot dead in his four-wheel-drive vehicle at the Kuala Baram traffic light intersection in Miri about 9.20am on June 21.

On the Op Selamat, Mazlan said speed traps would be used in this year’s operations as part of an effort to reduce road accidents.

Drivers who exceed the speed limit will be issued on-the-spot summonses, he added.

He said a special team would also be tasked to monitor motorists who ignored traffic light signals.

He also advised motorists against using the emergency lane as it could prevent rescue teams from reaching their destination on time.
