
According to a statement on the foundation’s website, this was the only link it had with the government, besides the salaries of civil servants assigned to the former Prime Minister at the foundation.
Aside from that, the foundation said it has never received any funding from the government.
“The foundation is confident of continuing and demonstrating the activities it has been involved in since its birth 13 years ago,” the statement said.
Among its activities are the collation of some 12 million pages of documents, a significant number of which are records of public speeches by all prime ministers.
Last week, Umno Youth called for the Barisan Nasional-led government to cease its funding of the Perdana Leadership Foundation. On Friday, the Umno Supreme Council ratified this proposal at its meeting.
In response to the Supreme Council decision yesterday, Mukhriz Mahathir, who was sacked from the party on Friday, questioned the right of Umno to make a decicion on an issue related to the government.
