In a statement, Ng said a notice of appeal was filed through Penang Deputy Public Prosecutor Razali Che Ani with the Penang High Court.
“We hope the High Court will maintain the earlier decision,” said Ng.
Ng was acquitted and discharged from a sedition charge over a comment piece he wrote on jailed de facto Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim’s conviction last year.
On May 19, the Sessions Court ruled that the comment piece was not seditious.
The court ruled the prosecution had failed to make out a prima facie case against Ng.
Ng was charged with sedition over remarks made in the article titled “Reformasi bermula lagi (Reformation re-emerges) in Kwong Wah Yit Poh last year.
This was after a police report was lodged by deputy Penang MCA Youth chief Ang Chor Keong on 19 February 2015.
Ang reported that Ng’s opinion piece titled “Let the Trumpet of Reformasi Resound” published on 10 February 2015 was seditious.
