PETALING JAYA:
A total of 116,836 Malaysians are on the no-fly list for failing to pay their income tax, the New Straits Times reported.

These tax dodgers, the Inland Revenue Board (IRB)revealed, owed the government a whooping RM2.55 billion as of May 31.

The IRB also said about 9,665 individuals were barred from travelling abroad after they failed to pay their Real Property Gains Tax (RPGT) amounting to some RM150 million.

“The public are advised to check their travel status with the Immigration Department before planning a holiday abroad, especially during the upcoming festive season.

“Please check your status and clear any arrears to avoid unnecessary loss of time and money,” the daily quoted the board as saying.

On Monday, Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced that national goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat was unable to participate in the Tigers’ Oceania Tour due to an alleged arrears in his income tax status.

He was barred from leaving the country by the Immigration Department, preventing him from flying to Australia on June 11 for a match against Papua New Guinea.
