KUALA LUMPUR:
The Magistrate’s Court today fined a male cross-dresser RM700 or 14 days’ jail for failing to produce his identity card.

Magistrate Adira Adnan sentenced Mohamad Dahalan Rosley, 24, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to produce his identity card or temporary identification document at Movida Entertainment Centre, Jalan Changkat, Bukit Bintang, here, at 11pm, on June 19.

The accused, who wore a short, thigh-level gown with black, wooly handbag, was charged under the National Registration Regulations 1990 which provides for a jail sentence up to three years or a fine up to RM20,000.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin urged the court to impose a heavy sentence to serve as a lesson to the accused.

Mohamad Dahalan, who was not represented by counsel, appealed for a lenient sentence as he was just released from jail for a drug offence and also suffered from tuberculosis.
