Lim called for the “eight-eyed” meeting (“eight-eyed” since both wear spectacles) to put an end to “polemics” on the matter in the press, saying it was best that the two met to peruse the application.
“Fadillah appears to be not happy I did not send the application letter directly to him.
“I know we have applied to the prime minister directly, and only sent him a copy of the letter. PM is the chief executive of the Federal Government and it is standard protocol that I send letters to him.
“I will personally hand the letter to him,” he said in a press conference in Komtar today.
Lim added it would fulfil the technical specifications required by the Federal Government after the Works Ministry gives its nod in principle for the bridge.
“What is important now is the bridge has to be principally approved.
“Detailed design studies costs millions of ringgit and is not an easy process,” he said.
Lim also hoped that the Federal Government would allow the bridge to be toll free.
“The savings from the cost of the bridge will make it toll free. If done, it would be historic, a major bridge would be built free from tolls,” he added.
Faced with immense criticism over the undersea tunnel project, Lim asked the Federal Government if it would allow the Penang government to build instead a toll-free bridge from Gurney Drive to Butterworth on its own.
