Malaysiakini earlier today reported that the Kuala Selangor PKR chief was also being probed for allegedly cheating several disabled people of their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) deposits.
In a press conference, PKR Vice-President Tian Chua confirmed the incident.
“We heard he was picked up last night and released on bail this morning.
“The party’s leadership will seek an explanation from him soon, as details are still sketchy at the moment,” he told a press conference.
Tian Chua hoped that the incident would not be linked to Pakatan Harapan candidates competing in the twin by-elections in Sungai Besar, Selangor and Kuala Kangsar, Perak, this Saturday.
“The arrest has no political elements to it.
“We (PKR) will continue to uphold integrity and fight against power abuse.”
The arrest of Manikavasagam, who served as Kapar MP from 2008 to 2013, spread through WhatsApp yesterday.
The bribe is said to be a kickback from the contractor to secure a nearly RM1 million tender to repair basic amenities.
