In making the call, Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir said he was disappointed with the outburst by former Kuala Kangsar Umno division head Ramly Zahari against Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mastura Mohd Yazid in a local daily yesterday.
Zambry said the Umno veteran should be aware of party principles which should be obeyed by every member.
“When the party makes a decision, it is incumbent on us to abide by it and I believe Ramly, a long-time politician, should be better informed on party principles which should be upheld by members.
He was speaking to reporters after handing over Hari Raya cakes to members of Perak security forces and uniformed personnel, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri here today.
Zambry also advised party members to put aside whatever unhappiness and ensure BN retained the parliamentary seat.
In an interview, Ramly, who was a former state exco member for 18 years, admitted being disappointed by Mastura who was cold to him.
Quoting a press report, Ramly claimed he was asked by Mastura’s family to leave while attending a prayer session for Mastura’s husband, Wan Mohammad Khail-il Wan Ahmad.
The Kuala Kangsar by-election was called following the death of Mastura’s husband, Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.
Polling for the four-cornered contest involving Mastura, Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad (PAS), Prof Dr Ahmad Termizi (Parti Amanah Negara) and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary will be held on June 18.
