Selva’s resignation letter, which is currently being shared via Whatsapp, stated: “I am unable, under any circumstances, to serve a leadership that does not vigorously uphold the sanctity of my religion and race,” the report said.
Selva confirmed with the news portal that he had indeed resigned, but declined to comment further.
He also thanked the party’s current and past leadership, and said he had given his all to the party, but the time has come for him to part ways.
Although Selva did not specify the reason for his quitting, he had in the past, written a few articles expressing his concern that the party representing the Indian community was becoming more and more irrelevant.
He had also written that the time has come for MIC to reexamine its role and relationship with Barisan Nasional.
