Johor Public Order and Traffic Department head Supt Baharudin Mat Taib said the 32-year-old man was detained in Kota Tinggi last Saturday.
The suspect is in remand until today for investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving, he told reporters here today.
Baharudin said in the incident, which occurred about 7.50am, a Proton Waja car was alleged to have knocked down Singaporean motorcyclist Zulkefli Yusof, 48, and then fled the scene.
“The impact caused Zulkefli to fall on the road and he was run over by another car,” he said, adding that Zulkefli died at the scene.
In another development, Baharudin advised motorists to abide by traffic regulations, including not leaving their vehicles at the road shoulder as it could obstruct traffic flow, especially at shopping centres and the Larkin Sentral Public Transport Terminal.
He said 1,791 summonses were issued by the police to errant motorists in the Larkin area between January and May this year.
A total of 1,218 of the summonses were for obstructing smooth flow of traffic, he added.
