KUALA LUMPUR:
Plans for a “Save Malaysia” hunger strike by disabled activists failed to materialise as the event has been postponed until further notice, says its organiser Isaiah Jacob.

“We had a meeting and we decided that it will be postponed for a few days or until August,” he said to FMT when contacted.

The hunger strike, to call for incarcerated former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s release, was scheduled to take place at Dataran Merdeka at midnight. However, no reason was given for its postponement.

Isaiah, who is also a member of PKR, said a press statement regarding the postponement would be sent out soon.

Earlier this week, Isaiah said the hunger strike had attracted the interest of 16 NGOs.

Among the demands of the strike are for the GST to be abolished and for the Prime Minister to dissolve Parliament so that the next General Election can be held within 90 days.

In February last year, Anwar was sent to prison for five years after the Federal Court rejected his final appeal against a sodomy conviction.
