The party explained this is why the shariah-based law is not on its main agenda when meeting voters in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.
Amanah committee member Phahrolrazi Zawawi stressed that his party was part of Pakatan Harapan (PH), along with partners PKR and DAP, where hudud was not on their agenda.
“In fact, when it comes to the implementation of Islamic values, we will focus on people-centric issues such as the rising cost of living and economic problems.”
Hudud made headlines again after a Private Member’s Bill by PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang to elevate the status of Shariah courts was expedited in Parliament by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said last month.
PAS has since said it will explain the matter to the people and have spoken on the subject during its campaigns for the twin by-elections.
On a separate matter, Phahrolrazi admitted that Malay voters in the two parliamentary constituencies were not familiar with Amanah.
“Party workers, therefore, will have to go down to the ground to inform the people about Amanah and Pakatan Harapan.”
The by-elections were called after their incumbents died in a helicopter crash last month.
