PETALING JAYA:
SUPP President Senator Dr Sim Kui Hian today lamented that senior positions within the Federal Government, including those at the state level, were mostly held by non-Sarawakians.

“Even here in the Senate, there needs to be fairer representation. Of the 70 members, only three are from Sarawak,” he said in the Dewan Negara, reported Star Online.

“The reason I bring this up is because I want to be consistent and in line with what is being said in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly,” he said during the debate on the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2015.

In the last Sarawak Election, BN won 72 out of 82 seats.

SUPP had campaigned on the “Tok Nan” factor (based on the popularity of Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem) and requests for the Federal Government to give Sarawak more autonomy.

Sim said if negotiations “do not become successful” then “Sarawak cannot be guaranteed as a fixed deposit in the next general election”.

“Sarawakians feel mistreated after 53 years.

“We do not want to re-negotiate the Malaysia Agreement 1963 but we just want to implement what was agreed upon.”

Sim said the state BN’s promise to regain Sarawak’s autonomy was a big swing factor in the state election and he hoped more development projects will be carried out in the state.
