Hadi does not speak for God, says Khalid

Amanah leader says rather than scaring voters with threats of damnation, PAS should convince people that its approach is the right one.

PETALING JAYA: It is wrong for any party to claim or imply that they are chosen by God, according to Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Communications Director Khalid Samad.

He was referring to Hadi’s recent warning to Sungai Besar voters that they would be “damned” if they voted for the wrong candidate in the coming by-election.

Speaking to FMT, Khalid said although “everyone can agree” that choosing the “wrong” candidate does have its implications in this world and the next, no party could claim that it “represents God”.

“If they believe that what they are doing is right then it becomes their responsibility to convince people rather than use politics of damnation,” he said.

He pointed out what PAS needed to realise was that there were many different approaches to “carrying out the word of God” and that they were only using one of the approaches.

“What PAS is doing is an effort that may not necessarily be agreed on by everyone in terms of what the party’s approaches or priorities are.”

He added that Hadi’s statement proved that the party had no respect for the people’s right to choose.

“It just speaks volumes in terms of their thinking. PAS and its President Abdul Hadi Awang have to accept that they don’t speak for God.”
