TEMERLOH:
A total of 120 houses and shops in eight villages in the district were damaged, half of them severely, when a storm battered the area on Saturday evening.

Temerloh security council committee secretary Mohd Amin Shafie said the incident occurred about 6.20pm.

The storm that struck Kampung Desa Murni Kerdau, Desa Murni Ketam, Desa Murni Sanggang, Kampung Paya Mengkuang, Paya Keladan and several surrounding villages, also ripped off the walls and roofs of several houses.

“During the incident, most of the residents were waiting to break their fast,” Mohd Amin told Bernama when contacted here yesterday.

He said various government agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department, Department of Civil Defence, and Kuala Krau MP Ismail Mohamed Said and Lancang state assemblyman Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin took part in a clean-up operation.

Mohd Amin said the victims were staying temporarily with their relatives and neighbours, adding that assistance was channelled to the victims to ease their burden.

Today, Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah is scheduled to visit the area and provide assistance to affected residents.
