Ahmad Shabery Cheek said this phenomenon happened because opposition parties realise they need each other to achieve their goals.
“Lim Kit Siang has his goals which are desired by DAP, but he is aware that they cannot do it alone.
“They need ‘war horses’ for them to make gains,” said Shabery.
“They used Anwar Ibrahim (the de facto PKR leader), Abdul Hadi Awang (PAS president), and now Amanah to help achieve their goals.
They now have a new ‘horse’ in Dr Mahathir joining the race because DAP knows they will not be able to go anywhere on their own.
He said Dr Mahathir wanted to remove Najib Razak as prime minister but would not be able to achieve his cause on his own without backing from others.
“Maybe with an old horse like Kit Siang and other horses with a broken leg, like PAS splinter, Amanah, Mahathir hopes to benefit, ” he said adding that Dr Mahathir had sought the support from other parties so that he could have a stronger voice.
