He said new fencing would be installed at Muhibbah PPR, Kampung Limau PPR, Intan Baiduri PPR, Beringin PPR, Batu Muda PPR and the Youth Complex in Cheras, while the perimeter fencing at the Pudu Ulu PPR would be repaired immediately.

“We are also identifying other housing projects to be fenced up in our efforts to curb the incidence of vehicle thefts in the affected areas,” he told Bernama recently.

Meanwhile, DBKL Housing Management & Community Development Department director Wan Mohd Ghazali Nor admitted that the absence of perimeter fencing had made it convenient for outsiders to gain access and commit vehicle theft, vandalism, drug related and other offences in the housing areas.

“DBKL is always looking for ways to improve facilities in public housing areas for residents’ safety and comfort,” he said.

He said the use of other security features such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras would also be introduced in phases at all PPR and PA to reduce the incidence of vehicle thefts.

“It is important for DBKL staff, residents’ associations, as well as non-governmental organisations, to be involved and cooperate in addressing the increasing number of theft cases here,” he said.

In another development, DBKL has appointed over 1,000 volunteer firefighters, consisting of PPR and PA residents.

“So far, a total of 600 volunteers have been trained by certified firefighters and uniforms and equipment have also been provided for the team,” he said.
