KUALA LUMPUR: Graphic designer and activist Fahmi Reza faced another charge on Friday, this time at the Ipoh Sessions Court, for uploading a clown picture resembling Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak along with a notice of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on his Facebook account.

His lawyer Melissa Sasidaran said he pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act. The charge relates to “intention to upset others”.

If convicted Fahmi faces a maximum jail sentence of one year or maximum fine of RM50,000 or both.

“The (Sessions Court) judge Ikmal Hishan Tajuddin allowed bail at RM7,000 with a surety and fixed July 27 as mention for the prosecution to exchange documents,” she said

Fahmi paid the bail.

Fahmi claimed trial at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Monday for uploading a picture of a Najib-lookalike clown picture on his Instagram account.

The Sessions Court fixed June 17 as the next mention date.
