During a question and answer session today at the Wild Digital Conference, Najib recalled his first meeting with Zuckerberg, pointing out that the latter was wearing jeans and T-shirt.
“My initial reaction, he doesn’t look very smart. But actually, he is very smart. He is super smart but doesn’t look very smart.”
However, Najib said that his thoughts changed immediately when he started speaking with Zuckerberg.
“But when you talk to him and his ideas and you begin to realise that he is smart.”
Najib also commended the Facebook office in California for its “informal setting”, and noted that the lack of hierarchy differed from the conventional government “set-up”.
“I like the whole attitude about people working there.
“They (Facebook workers) can work at their own pace, munching muffins with a cup of Starbucks coffee and churning out ideas at the same time. It’s a different world.”
On a separate matter, Najib said that the Malaysian political landscape has evolved simply because the level of education in the country has improved.
The changes in the political landscape, he said, also pose a variety of challenges for politicians today.
“40 years ago it was simpler, people want electricity, roads and public halls, that kind of things.
“But today, people have moved on. People in urban areas are more demanding and the level of expectation is much higher,” he said when asked by Patrick Grove, the CEO of Catcha about the current political landscape in the country.
