He said the Machang Bubok village area recorded 13 dengue cases, which began on May 11.
“Health authorities say the epidemic is expected to end by the end of June.
“Although the epidemic is confined to a small area, we must remain vigilant and residents should clear all breeding grounds in their neighbourhood.
“Also, please cooperate with health officers who are on fogging rounds,” Lim told a press conference today.
He also revealed that two other areas, namely Taman Jawa in Butterworth and Tingkat Nirvana off Anson Rd in George Town, have recorded five dengue cases in total.
To aid with dengue control, Lim handed over 10 fogging machines worth RM58,300 to the Penang Health Department’s Vector Control Unit. The units were purchased using his personal allocation.
Meanwhile, the latest dengue statistics in Penang showed an overall reduction of 25 in cases compared with last year.
A total of 1,765 cases were reported from Jan 1 until June 4, down 612 cases from the 2,377 cases recorded in the corresponding period last year.
Ten dengue deaths were also reported in the state up to June 4 this year, compared with six in the corresponding period last year.
Penang is currently fifth in the number of dengue cases nationwide, with 1,765 cases, until June 5.
