KUALA LUMPUR:
The Port Klang Authority (PKA) has expressed concern over the recurring breakdowns in the Customs Information System at Port Klang’s Westport.

In a statement today, PKA said the system at Westport was down at 2am today, resulting in containers being checked and released manually to reduce congestion.

PKA General Manager David Padman said the issue was beyond the control of the authority and its terminal operator.

“However, we view the situation critically as it could impede Port Klang’s efficiency and growth as a national port as well as a renowned top world-class container port,” he said.

PKA said the Royal Customs Department is currently working to rectify the situation and has put a temporary alternative solution in place for manual cargo clearance.

PKA said it and its terminal operator would extend full support and work closely together with the Customs Department to reach an appropriate solution to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
