Royal honours for Kevin Morais, crash victim MPs

Late ministry sec-gen and Noriah's bodyguard among 1,546 recipients of federal honours.

Murdered government prosecutor Kevin Morais and two MPs and a senior official who died in a helicopter crash last month have been awarded posthumous federal royal honours on the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

Morais, who was found murdered in September last year, was made a Datuk.

The two MPs were: the late Noriah Kasnon, MP for Sungai Besar, Selangor, who was made a Tan Sri while Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, MP for Kuala Kangsar, was made a Datuk. Noriah was deputy minister for plantation industries and commodities. The ministry’s Secretary-General, Sundaran Annamalai, who was also a victim, posthumously received a datukship.

The Attorney-General, Mohamed Apandi Ali, heads the list of 1,546 recipients, according to Bernama.

He was the sole recipient of Darjah Panglima Mangku Negara, which carries the title Tan Sri, while 51 others, including Noriah, were bestowed the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota, which also carries the title Tan Sri.

Among them were former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator Abdul Wahid Omar; Chief of Navy Admiral Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin, deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim; and Public Services Commission chairman Arpah Abdul Razak.

Others included three Federal Court judges Ramly Ali, Azahar Mohamed and Zaharah Ibrahim; Foreign Ministry secretary-general Othman Hashim and the senior deputy secretary-general in the Prime Minister’s Department, Othman Mahmood; Securities Commission Malaysia executive chairman Ranjit Singh; former Bernama editor-in-chief Abdul Rahman Sulaiman; Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry secretary-general Dr Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur, the director-general of education, Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof; and Malaysian Islamic Development Department director-general Othman Mustafa; National Culture and Arts Department director-general Norliza Rofli.

Business recipients included Latimer Corporation Sdn Bhd managing director Dennis Chandratheepam Latimer, Axiata Group Berhad president and group executive director Jamaludin Ibrahim; Widad Business Group’s group executive chairman Muhammad Ikmal Opat Abdullah; Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences Pro Chancellor R.Palaniappan; and Federation of Malaysian Manfacturers president Saw Choo Boon.

Politicians included Umno Wanita chief and Women’s Economic Advisor Shahrizat Abdul Jalil; Selangor State Federal Action Council adviser Noh Omar; Kampar Jaya MIC division chairman S. Veerasingam; Parti Bersatu India Malaysia president S. Nallakaruppan, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Wanita chief Empiang anak Antak; and Parti Progresif Penduduk Malaysia financial advisor M.N Puvanendran.

The Panglima Jasa Negara which carries the title ‘Datuk’ was awarded to 79 people, including the late Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad and the late Sundaran Annamalai, and the late Kevin Morais, former Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Also awarded the PJN were three Appeals Court Judges, Kamardin Hashim, Harminder Singh Dhaliwal and Ong Lam Kiat, as well as Legal Advisor in the Prime Minister’s Department Almalena Sharmila Johan Thambu; Director of Communications in the Finance Ministry Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor; eye specialist and public speaker Prof Dr Che Muhaya Mohamad; Deputy President of the Association of Malaysian Armed Forces veterans (ATM) Kapten Sharuddin Omar, former president of Dong Zong, Quek Chee Hiang @ Quek Suan Hiang, and MIC secretary-general A. Sakthivel.

The Panglima Setia Diraja award which carries the title ‘Datuk’ was awarded to three people: the Secretary of the Managment Services Division in the Prime Minister’s Department Halimah Hashim, Assistant Chief of Staff of Malaysian Armed Forces headquarters for Personnel Services Major General Mohd Yadi and aide-de-camp of the Sultan of Kedah Kolonel Tunku Aziz Bendahara Tunku Nong.

The Darjah Kebesaran Johan Mangku Negara (JMN) was awarded to 37 people, including the Deputy Head I of the Legal Division in the Attorney-General’s Chambers Alice Loke Yee Ching and dental expert Dr Rashidah Burhanudin; Head of Department and Consultant Otorhinolaryngology at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital Dr K.A. Valuyeetham, Director-General of the Handicraft Development Corporation Zuraida Mokhtar, former Deputy President of the Malaysian Construction Wholesalers Association Aziz Bahaman, Melaka State Police Chief DCP Datuk Ramli Din and Penang Deputy Police Chief DCP A.Thaiveegan.

Eighty-three people received the Johan Setia Mahkota (JSM) including the Senior Consultant (Pediatric) at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, Muar, Johor Dr Angeline Wang Seng Lian and Director of TV Programming, Broadcasting Department, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Norliza Mohd Ali.

The Johan Setia Diraja (JSD) Award was also conferred on the Private Secretary of the Tuan Yang Terutama di-Pertuan Negeri Sarawak Datu Mustapa Han and five other recipients.

The Bintang Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN) were given to 224 people including Sentul District Police Chief ACP R.Munusamy, Senior Director of the Malaysian Statistics Department Abd Latib Talib, Communications Officer in the Office of the Chief Secretary to the Government Ahmad Shukran Shaharuddin, Putrajaya District Police Chief ACP Rosly Hassan and President of Persatuan Seniman Malaysia Rozaidi Abdul Jamil.

The Bintang Kesatria Setia Diraja (KSD) was awarded to 10 people including Music Director in Kuala Lumpur City Hall Mohamad Adzan Mohamad Fauzi and Civil Engineer in the Facility Management Division of the Public Works Department Azme Hassan.

National diving queen Pandelela Rinong Pamg, teacher in the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Wira Penrissen, Kota Samarahan Sarawak Chong Siau Chen and Executive Secretary of the Malaysian Welfare Centre Siti Fadilah Sudin were among the 374 recipients of the Bintang Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN).

A total of 596 individuals also received the Pingat Pangkuan Negara (PPN), including the late Lance Corporal Ahmad Sobri Harun, bodyguard of Noriah Kasnon who was killed in the helicopter crash in Sarawak, as well as 81 others listed as recipients of the Pingat Bentara Setia Diraja (BSD), Bernama reported.
