Rafizi, who is also MP for Pandan, Selangor, had been invited to a gathering of opponents of the proposed Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH), Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) and Shah Alam-Ulu Kelang Expressway (SUKE).
He was bombarded with questions when he attempted to explain how Selangor was administered under Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, who is PKR deputy president and heads a Pakatan Harapan coalition government, according to Malay Mail Online.
A protest leader, Mak Khuin Weng, lashed out at Rafizi, however. “What is the point you all are in the government but you cannot change the rules that you criticised?,” Mak was reported as saying.
Another person, who was not identified, insisted that Rafizi should take responsibility as a PKR office-bearer and elected representative in Selangor.
“You are the elected representative in Selangor. You must represent the entire Selangor and not just your constituency. Some more, your party rule Selangor; you must take responsibility!”
In an attempt to quell the tempers, Rafizi explained that he attended the function after he was invited by one of his constituents to accept a memorandum on the proposed highway. “If there’s anything more than that, I cannot be part of that,” he reportedly said.
Later at a press conference, Mak, who is a committee member of an anti-Kidex and anti-DASH pressure group, said Pakatan Harapan should focus on helping the people instead of their internal conflict.
The opposition coalition, he added, always blamed PAS, DAP, PKR and Barisan Nasional. “But when we wanted to discuss issues of residents, they said that is not their area.”
