PETALING JAYA:
Curious shoppers gathered and looked but did not offer help when controversial blogger Amos Yee was attacked by a man at a shopping mall in Singapore recently.

This marks the second time Yee has been assaulted by a member of the public, after he was slapped hard in the face by a middle-aged man outside the courthouse last year.

The recent attack is believed to have taken place at the Jurong Point Shopping Centre.

According to a report by China Press, Yee uploaded the 1:08-minute recording on YouTube, where the suspect, wearing a cap and glasses, is seen suddenly grabbing him from behind in a bear-hug and refusing to let go. The scruffy-looking long-haired teenager put up a struggle and screamed for help although none was forthcoming.

It is believed Yee was making an unrelated video recording of his own at the time of the assault.

The situation quickly turned chaotic, with the recording becoming unclear and the only audible sound being that of Yee continuing to shout for help off-screen.

In another video, the man is seen dragging Yee out of a Japanese restaurant in full view of the public, with a foreign male asking him to let Yee go.

However, even by the end of the clip, the man had clearly not released Yee from his hold.

Netizens who watched the video clip said Yee did not deserve to be treated in that manner as only Singaporean law should be used to deal with him.

However, others said he deserved to be attacked for his attention-seeking antics on the Internet.

The 17-year-old was brought to court in May last year on six accusations of intending to offend Muslims and Christians and two accusations of failing to report to the Jurong Police division to aid in investigations.

Yee was however released on SGD5,000 bail.
