Thus, the Islamist party’s ulama chief, Dr Mahfodz Mohamed’s allegation was a lie.
“When have we done that? Have we ever convened a meeting?
“I have spoken to the Speaker (Law Choo Kiang). The state Legislative Assembly also never convened for a meeting on LGBT.
“It is a private initiative by a state assemblyman, who was supported by Umno reps,” Lim said.
LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender.
Mahfodz was reported yesterday as saying the country was now in “crisis”, as LGBT groups were being recognised by the secular leadership in the country.
He had cited the Penang government on the issue, for having recognised the LGBT community, by virtue of “forming” a committee on transgender affairs, including having “a meeting in the state assembly”.
Meanwhile, Lim said it was regrettable that PAS had made such comments.
“A party that claims to have leaders with good values, is now acting like Umno.
“There are now slandering, spewing hate and extremism towards DAP and its leaders who are not Muslim.”
In the recent sitting of the state assembly, Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu announced a committee to oversee transgender issues was formed with the support of eight reps.
Teh had said the committee was not part of the Penang state assembly, but one that “straddles the house” and the state government.
