“He must be conferencing with Allah, which is probably why he knows better,” the natural resources and environment minister said sarcastically.
Wan Junaidi, who is also the Santubong MP, then “lamented” that Sarawakians did not have such conversations with God.
“We don’t meet up with Allah. Our guide for now is the Quran and hadith,” the PBB politician said.
Hadiths are the sayings of Prophet Muhammad.
Earlier today, PAS Dewan Ulama Chairman Mahfodz Mohamed was reported to have said that Muslims in Sarawak were not practising the true Islamic way of life.
Mahfodz then blamed this situation on what he called the colonial understanding of Islam.
Meanwhile, DAP’s Abdul Aziz Isa said Mahfodz had no right to accuse Sarawakian Muslims of not practising the faith correctly.
“Such words should not have been uttered by an ulama. If that is the case, it is best he quits politics and becomes a full-time preacher,” he said when contacted.
Abdul Aziz, who was DAP’s Batu Kitang candidate in the recent Sarawak election, also said at least in Sarawak there was no such thing as racial politics, unlike in West Malaysia.
This, he pointed out, was not encouraged in Islam.
“So don’t just see the speck of dust in another’s eye and pay no attention to the log in your own eye.”
