Speaking to FMT, Syed Rosli, who is Taman Chempaka Umno Youth assistant secretary, said the risk of expulsion was just a small price to be paid to send a message to the party leaders.
The message, he explained, was that the BN had to change its political ways by getting rid of its culture of cronyism and nepotism.
“Look at the candidate the BN is fielding (Mastura Mohd Yazid)? To me it is meant only to continue the legacy of the previous parliamentarian. The chance has not been provided to other Umno leaders.
“It makes light of the locals in Kuala Kangsar who may be more qualified. Mastura is an outsider. Why was the opportunity not provided to the locals themselves?”
Syed Rosli was commenting on a statement by Umno Information Chief Annuar Musa that the former’s membership might be automatically terminated if he were to contest the Kuala Kangsar seat.
Syed had earlier today announced his intention to contest in the June 18 Kuala Kangsar by-election.
Admitting he did not have a good chance of winning, Syed Rosli, however, vowed to try his best. He would work to at least ensure he did not lose his deposit, he said.
