KUALA LUMPUR:
Barisan Nasional (BN) has yet to make a decision on the PAS Private Member’s Bill to amend the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, says Umno Information Chief Annuar Musa.

He conceded that MPs were free to vote on their own accord.

“We have not received any order at the BN level. We have not decided. We will decide when the time comes.

“We will let BN members vote according to their conscience because it is a private member’s Bill, not a government Bill.”

He added that MPs were not forced to follow the party whip’s call.

“The MPs can support, reject or even not vote. We have many options.”

Last Thursday, the contentious Bill, which will pave the way for hudud law to be implemented in Kelantan, was brought forward for debate in Parliament.

Although the motion was passed, PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang requested the debate on the Bill be postponed until the next Dewan Rakyat sitting.
