TASEK GELUGOR:
Fifteen residents in Jalan Padang Menora, Kampung Baru here were sent to the hospital for examination for suspected exposure to mercury yesterday.

Kepala Batas Fire and Rescue Department senior assistant superintendent Abdul Aziz Yusuff said all the five affected residents’ houses had been vacated as the chemical liquid also spilled inside their homes.

Firemen conducted cleaning work at these houses this morning after the department was informed that the mercury was brought home by their children, who found it near their houses.

The department was still investigating the cause of how the mercury had been found outside, he told reporters at the scene.

On Thursday, 56 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Guar Perahu, Bukit Mertajam were also quarantined after a mercury spill in their class.
